Disclaimer about assessments
I try to work within the neurodiversity affirming model. I recognise that neurodivergent people are an essential part of our society and deserve respectful and affirming care. I am trauma-informed and acknowledge that there is natural variation in human cognitive function. I reject the idea that neurodivergent people need “fixing.” Rather, society is filled with physical, attitudinal, communication, and social barriers. Assessments to access supports to modify the environment are often focused on impairment and rely on referencing a more medical model of disability (e.g. using the DSM). Please do not hesitate to speak to me about any concerns related to this topic.
A cognitive assessment (commonly known as IQ test) helps us determine the child’s capacity to learn. Using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V) we can explore how their verbal skills, nonverbal problem solving skills, visual spatial skills, working memory, and processing speed all work together to create what we consider IQ to be. We will be able to identify the best ways to support learning based on their scores and individual strengths and weaknesses.
WISC-V is suitable for children 6-16 years old. If there are suspected intellectual delays, the minimum age is 7 years and 7 months. Children over 16 can complete the adult version of the test (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV)). The assessment occurs over several appointments.
-
Parent interview – 50 mins by phone - $200
Gathers history of concerns, other details to help explore diagnosis and helps rule out other disorders.
-
Assessment Session with the child - Approx 45-90 mins - $500
WISC (IQ test) administered to the individual. This can be completed at home, school, or in the office.
-
Report writing - $350 plus GST
Report completed by psychologist after all information is gathered. Report will not be released until all fees to this point are paid.
-
OPTIONAL – parent/s feedback session – 30 minutes by phone - $100

The WISC-V also helps explore a diagnosis of intellectual developmental disorder. An adaptive assessment is also required for this diagnosis, so in addition to the above appointments, the following will also be required:
-
Adaptive Assessment (ABAS-3) - completed online - $250
Parent/s and teacher to complete questionnaire online.
** Assessment for adults also available - Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV) and ABAS-3 will be used.
* Please note that there are no Medicare rebates for assessments (with the exception of autism). However, please check with your private health fund provider or NDIS if either apply for you.

Cognitive Assessments
Academic Assessments / Learning Disorders
Using the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III) we can explore specific areas of academic achievement such as reading, spelling, writing, math, listening comprehension, and oral expression. The WIAT-III allows you to see where your child is performing in these areas, compared to age or grade matched peers. WIAT-III scores allow us to see if the child is performing as expected for their age and/or grade. If there is a discrepancy (i.e. their academic scores are lower than what we would expect of someone their age), then there may be indications of a learning disorder. The assessment occurs over several appointments.

ADHD Assessments
I adhere to a thorough assessment process to explore Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as recommended in the Australian Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guideline For Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I complete the assessment by gathering information in a range of modalities and from multiple sources to increase reliability of outcomes. Evidence based tools such as the Conners 4th Edition are used.

**Please note that I cannot prescribe medication to support in the management of ADHD symptoms. A diagnosis can still assist with making environmental changes at home and school and can lead to a more efficient appointment/s when seeing a medical professional who can prescribe medication.
You will need to obtain a referral from your GP for a paediatrician or psychiatrist to explore medical treatment of ADHD. Some paediatricians and psychiatrists also insist on a cognitive assessment being completed alongside the ADHD assessment. If this is required, an additional fee of $750 will apply for administration of the WISC-V to the child.
* Please note that there are no Medicare rebates for assessments (with the exception of autism). However, please check with your private health fund provider or NDIS if either apply for you.
Autism Assessments
Autism assessments are completed with Mandurah Speech Pathology, as a formal diagnosis in WA requires three professionals to complete the assessment (a paediatrician, a speech pathologist, and a psychologist). Please complete this form to get on the waitlist.
Mandurah Speech Pathology and I will complete the assessment with you and your child in one day. You will be required to complete a form providing thorough background information. Your child's educator will also need to provide information to assist with the assessment. On the scheduled day the assessment will involve a diagnostic interview with you and assessments administered to your child. I currently use ADOS-2 ( Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) and MIGDAS-2 (Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing the Autism Spectrum).
The assessment costs $1250 for the psychologist and $1250 for the speech pathologist. There is currently a 6 month wait.
